Digital Technology Secretary

Budapest - 28 november 2004

Technology is one of the fastest evolving and revolutionizing things in our common lifes.Digital Technology (Internet and email, mobile communication, consumer digital media...) is changing, with increasing speed, the way we interact with the others, we organize projects and activities, we access to information and knowledge.

It's also an important component for the existence of our "system": the whole world of economy, finance, information, communication couldn't exist without digital technology, and even health, security, work, entertainment and, yes, art, are beginning to become digital dependent.

The good thing about this technology is that it could be used everywhere in the world, by everybody, at affordable costs.

Two problems we should take care of are: the war for the control of digital technology, the fact that it's not accessible for everyone.

As humanists, we disapprove and denounce every intention to control and close the development and the diffusion of these technologies, to make them just for an "elite", or leave them insecure.

As humanists, we think that every energy we put into inventing and developing new instruments, should be done in the direction of surpassing the pain and the suffering of everyone in the world.

We see digital technology as an instrument, a very useful one, that could help all of us going into the direction of the Universal Human Nation we want to build.
