G8: 50 BILLIONS DOLLARS FOR AFRICA, 1.035 FOR WEAPONS

The G8 meeting at Gleneagles has ended with a final document in which 50 billions dollars have been assigned to interventions in Africa.
In 2004 the world military expense has been 1.035 billions dollars and the G8 countries, USA ahead of all, have taken the lion’s share. To compare these figures is enough to unmask the hypocrisy of the commitment against poverty flaunted by Blair & C.
If they really wanted to “make poverty history”, as the slogan of last week’s big concerts said, it would be sufficient to reduce the military expenses and to direct them to development funds.
But the G8 leaders, responsibles of the present disaster, have no interest and no intention to change things. Only an organized and nonviolent movement of common people will be able to do it.
