CALL FOR A NON-VIOLENT CHANGE IN GUINEA
Category: European RegionThe Humanist International is expressing its deep concern regarding the violence of the armed forces of Guinea against Guinean people that have been demanding a democratic and non-violent change in their country. There are about 120 casualties caused by these repressions so far.
We call the government of Guinea and the president Lansana Conté to end up the violence and to listen to their people who are suffering for many years. The wages are not sufficient to feed the families. Drinking water and electricity have been missing. The constantly raising prices of gas have caused the raising of prices of all commodities. The sky high price of rice, the basic food in Guinea, has brought many people in starvation.
We ask the president Lansana Conté to consider that the people of Guinea need to find a new future path, which includes to use the country’s wealth and richness in favor of all people in Guinea and not only in favor of few.
We appeal to the army, police and governmental structures to end the violence and to convince the president Lansana Conté for the urge for an immediate democratic and non-violent change.
And we call all the People of Guinea to refrain from using violence, because we know that violence cannot bring something else then more violence.
Last but not least, we make an urgent call to the United Nations and to the European Union to use all the possible ways to inform the international community and to create the international pressure in order to reach truly democratic and non-violent changes in Guinea.
We call on the Guinean government to use this historic moment to transform the country into a true democracy and to finally end the prehistory of totalitarian regimes. We call on them to take a courageous step towards a non-violent and non-discriminatory world and to represent their people and all those who embrace the birth of a Universal Human Nation based on the ideas of peace, real democracy, respect for human rights, non-discrimination and non-violence.
