Jacques Chirac, a nuclear danger for Europe
Categorie: European RegionThe European Regional of Humanist Parties strongly condemns the test flight of the new M51 missile that took place on the 9th November at Bicarosse (France). The construction of these new 4th generation missiles that will equip nuclear submarines is in contravention of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT). In article 6 the NPT calls on signatories to completely eliminate their nuclear weapons.
Instead of fulfilling this commitment, French President Jacques Chirac is once more encouraging the arms race by carrying out nuclear tests in spite of international protests, as already happened in 1995.
These new missiles are seen as offensive weapons and not as a deterrent, something that increases the risk of nuclear war even more. Therefore, the European Regional of Humanist Parties condemns the war-mongering attitude of France, demands the immediate halt to the construction of new M51 missiles and demands that the process of nuclear disarmament according to the 13 steps laid out in the NPT be started.
The EU must denounce the irresponsibility of the French government that is bringing danger and not security to Europe.
