Letter from European Humanists

We have been informed about an event in Chile that appears to us to be extremely grave for a country that pretends to be a democratic country that respects human rights and international law.  We refer to the expulsion of the Argentine citizen and member of the Humanist Movement, Jorge Gonzalez.

In as much as the Humanist Jorge Gonzalez is a fighter for non-violence so his methodology of action is active non-violence.  In no way has Jorge Gonzalez been involved in violent acts as is being suggested by the Chilean Interior Ministry.  Likewise, we have been informed by the Humanist Party of Chile that Jorge has not participated in any moment in violent acts.  For us, it is evident that the Chilean Government is using a supposed “foreign intervention” to hide the real reasons for which thousands of Chilean students are protesting.

The behaviour of the Chilean Interior Ministry seems more like the behaviour of dictatorial or fascist governments and is shameful for a State that is supposedly democratic.  European Humanists denounce this open repression, and ask the Chilean Government to seriously investigate this grave case of manipulation of public opinion through the arbitrary expulsion of Jorge Gonzalez.  Those responsible for this apparent set up should be dismissed from their posts and subject to justice.

If the Chilean Government does not carry out investigations into this case and rectify this expulsion it will appear to us, European Humanists, that there is complicity in this intolerable situation.Attentively,
