Regarding European anti-terrorist measures after the London bombings.
Kategorie: Cultures and MigrationsIn European countries a new round of measures for control and repression is being installed. With the justification of the criminal attacks in London, European governments are trying to increase the means of control over internet and telephone communications and hardening the controls at internal borders.
And in addition they want to control the religious leaders (Muslims, of course), facilitating the deportation of those, whose speech is not considered to be “moderate”.
The simplistic vision that they are trying to introduce into the consciousness of European societies is not useful to those of us who want to reveal the New World that is already here: a world of solidarity and non-violence, a world built with the best of the peoples and the best of the different cultures: a world in which the sacred within the human being will be expressed with strength.
And in this world the “culture” of fear and suspicion that they are trying to instil in us to the core is not useful for us. We are looking for the sensibility of non-violence, but not of cowardice. We do not want nor do we need that “do-gooders” filter reality with their undeclared partiality. The maddening mechanism of violence is striking Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and North Africa and not only in New York, Madrid or London. We know that violence generates more violence. Here we are not trying to choose one faction or another. We, the people, have not chosen any of them, and invasions under the cover of humanitarianism seem to us as violent as the heartless ones who sacrifice themselves. The situation is such that the spiral of violence is growing, sustained by a series of valiant “reasons”.
And it is precisely this course that we do not want either for ourselves or for the generations to come.
Violence is not the solution. In these hard days where violence is everywhere, we want to remember the response of the people of Spain given after the attacks in Madrid. Everyone, from every culture, of every age group, from every condition, came out to the streets to make the violent ones feel the strength of union, the calm expression and overwhelming rejection of violence. It was a lucid expression of the soul of the people and it could not be bought or manipulated.
Therefore we say that all those who are invading others’ territory must withdraw immediately and comply with the resolutions and recommendations of the United Nations. We say that in each country, law and justice, however imperfect they are, must be made to work before hardening laws and repressive regulations that will fall into the hands of those who hinder law and justice.
We denounce the hypocrisy of European leaders and we manifest our decided support to all our Muslim brothers that want a just world with solidarity and non-violence and that today are being unjustly labelled as violent precisely by a system that is violent.
We especially want this message to reach the youth so that they share the revolution of non-violence with us and become the protagonists of this system that denies them.
